Skerries Mills is a unique experience to visit. This award winning restoration of the Great 5 Sail Windmill, Thatched 4 Sail Windmill and Water mill is set in the town park centre of the beautiful seaside town of Skerries. The history of the mills can be traced to the early 16th century. All three mills are in working order and demonstrate an efficient and clean use of water and wind power and a rare survival of 17th, 18th and 19th century industrial history.
Guided tours last approximately 50 minutes during which time your guide will show you the history of milling and Skerries Mills. Try your hand at stone grinding flour; see the water wheel in action turning the sieves, shakers, blowers, etc. inside the mill. Go to the top of the 4 Sail Windmill and visit the 5 Sail Windmill taking in the views of the town as well as the islands off Skerries and the coast line as far as the Mourne Mountains which are available from the site. After your tour relax in the Watermill Cafe where we have specialty loose leaf teas, artisan coffee and home baked scones daily. Then browse for that souvenir or special gift in our craft shop.
