At the top of Parliament Street sits this Grand Georgian building, designed by Thomas Cooley. It was originally the Royal Exchange and became the centre of municipal government in 1852.
City Hall’s atmospheric vaults now house a multi media exhibition on the city’s history – “The Story of the Capital”. This self-guided exhibition takes just one hour and tells the tale of this unique and ever changing city. Treasures of the city such as the Great City Sword and Mace come together with video, medieval manuscripts, computer displays and period costumes to tell the “Story of the Capital”. A small shop and café are located on site.
Audio guides are available in English, Irish, French, German, Italian and Spanish. Leaflets are available in ten different languages. A talk on the history of the building is available, by arrangement, to groups of 10 or more and is included in the admission price.
The sumptuous fittings of the magnificent Rotunda or entrance hall reflect the prestige of Dublin in the late 18th Century and could be the perfect exclusive venue for your Civil Marriage or Civil Partnership Ceremony. Whether you want to stay for just a few minutes or a couple of hours, City Hall is a unique experience not to be missed.
