The Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA)is Ireland’s leading national institution for the collection and presentation of modern and contemporary art.

The Museum's mission is to foster, within society, an awareness, understanding and involvement in the visual arts through policies and programmes which are excellent, innovative and inclusive. The Museum presents a wide variety of art in a dynamic programme of exhibitions, which regularly includes bodies of work from its own Collection and its award-winning Education and Community Department. It also creates more widespread access to art and artists through its Studio and National programmes.

For 2012, owing to extensive refurbishment works, the main building at IMMA will be closed until 31 December 2012. Exhibitions will continue in the New Galleries, and the Artists’ Residency Programme will also continue on site during the closure. The café and bookshop will remain open to visitors.

While the main building is closed IMMA will also show exhibitions in the off-site location at Earlsfort Terrace from April 2012. An exciting programme is planned for this site which includes a major film work by Douglas Gordon, a mid - career retrospective by Alice Maher and a new exhibition from the IMMA Collection, complementing Ireland's hosting of the 2012 European Year of Science and echoing the building's history as a medical school.
